About us

The Workshop is Folkestone's independent coworking community: four floors of desks, offices and meeting rooms on Tontine Street, owned and run locally, with the people who make the decisions actually in the building.

The story

From nightclub to workspace

32-40 Tontine Street has had lives. The building spent years as Pipers, one of Folkestone's best-remembered nightclubs, before the town's Creative Quarter grew up around it and the dance floors became floors of desks.

The Workshop kept the character: high ceilings, odd corners, a rooftop, and yes, a slide. What changed is what the building does for the town. Instead of one good night out, it now hosts 17+ companies and 216 members, from one-person freelancers to household names.

We're independent: not a franchise, not a chain, no head office somewhere else. The people who run it are at the front desk, and when members ask for something, the answer comes the same day, from someone whose name they know.

The street itself is a story

Tontine Street is named after one of history's strangest investment schemes, and the building stands minutes from where William Harvey was born and where a Kentish princess rests. We wrote it all up.

5 things you (probably) didn't know about Folkestone →
How we run it

Three things we won't budge on

01

Community before desks

Coffee mornings, pitch nights, the Workshop Card, a member directory. The desks are the easy bit; the point is who you're sat near.

02

Honest pricing

Every price is published on this site, includes what it says, and rolls monthly. No quote forms, no surprises at signature.

03

Folkestone first

Local partners on the Workshop Card, local suppliers where we can, and a building that pulls work into the town rather than out of it.
